April is always a busy time of year for Beer Sailing Club. The shackles of winter are cast aside as the club prepares for the start of the spring sailing season. Add in a healthy dose of social activity, and it's been an excellent start.
‘Call My Bluff’ Wine Tasting was a great success
‘A very entertaining evening’ ‘It was brilliant!’ ‘Congratulations on last night’s event’ ‘A great evening!’
Just a few of the comments from last Saturday’s event. Thanks must go to David Fripp, who hosted the evening, and to the panel of ‘experts’ - Brian Potter, Caroline Thompson and Kevin Fahey - who delivered their description of each of the wines with great detail, enthusiasm, wit and conviction! It was really good fun with lots of laughter and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it such a great event!
Volunteers and Helpers
Thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to honour their pledge of help on the membership form. Whether you're behind the bar, helping at social events, in the patrol boat or the Race hut, it's all hugely appreciated.
If you have not yet found the time to put yourself forward, don't worry, the duty organisers periodically get in touch. We're more than happy to guide you through how to help if you are unfamiliar. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the club and its always good to see people willing to spread the load for the benefit of all.
Sailing Gets Underway
The sailing season kicked off in style on Easter Sunday in glorious sunny weather, complete with a light sea breeze which came in earlier than expected to provide a first taste of sailing for some new members.
Very different conditions prevailed for the next weekend with a strong gusty NW wind which was tricky but exhilarating. Mark reports “ got into a great gust and topped out at 15.5 mph on a 1.5 mile blast down towards Axe!”
The Thursday evening series is also underway with some fantastic sailing conditions last week.
