Firstly, thanks to all those who came to our social get together at the club recently, and particularly for all the help and support that came out of that meeting,  It was great for old and new volunteers to meet up and we look forward to another successful social season at the Club.
Now updates of what’s planned for the coming months:
Tea, talk and cheque presentation - Wednesday May 17th at Beer Sailing Club 2.00pm
Gill would like to invite you all to the above, it will be a short talk by Dr Welland and hopefully one of the nurses giving more details on the team’s work.
We will also present the cheque raised by the Big Breakfast and clothing sales, and also advertising our fund raising event for the weekend in June 16, 17, 18th. - Gill Carthy
FLOATING FRIDAYS - end of the week fun on the water
Following on from the successful introduction of Floating Fridays  last year as a way to get people out on the water and renew, or find for the first time, the enjoyment of messing about on boats and other things that float, Beer Sailing Club is again supporting FFs through the summer months.
It's not a formal teaching session, you are not guaranteed a place on any piece of kit, it's a come along and have some fun, muck in with getting kit ready, bring your own kit, have a go on other people's kit: dinghies, kayaks, paddle boards, surf boards, wind surfers. Afterwards we gather at the clubhouse for supper - bring pizza, salad, etc and we all prepare and eat together on the terrace. The bar is open.
There will probably be experienced sailors there who can give support and tips.
To make sure that it is safe, the sailing club requires a committee member to be present who has an appropriate first aid certificate and a member who is authorised to use the safety boat. A committee member must be present at each session and that committee member has the authority not to let anybody or any piece of kit out on the water to take part in the session if it is not considered safe. Children must be accompanied by an adult who will take responsibility for them at all times.
Due to what seem to be very busy diaries we meet every 2 weeks rather than every week, the following dates are planned:
June 9th
June 23rd
July 7th
July 21st
August 4th
August 18th
September 1st
Of course this is all weather dependent - nothing is guaranteed!
The evenings are free for members, £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children who are not members. If you want to come along and see what it's all about we aim to be getting changed at the clubhouse between 4.30/5pm, when you can drop your supper off, and on the beach sorting out kit and floating about from around 5 - 7pm, supper is from 7.30 - 8pm depending on how quick we get off the beach and how many hands are there to help in the kitchen.
For more information or to be added to a mailing list for texts and e-mails to keep you informed of each session's plans, please e mail or call Nichola Burley, 0780 1983 152,
Best wishes. Nichola

Reminders from previous newsletters:
  • Membership renewals are now due. Details can be found in the Membership area of the website We are introducing online submission of renewals and payment of subs this year.
  • We are always looking out for helpers in the Patrol Boat and the Race Hut for club sailing. If you would like to be involved, please contact Michael Taylor (, Tel: 07811 444769). We will be happy to provide any training required.
  • There have been a few instances of furniture and equipment being ‘borrowed’ from the Clubhouse recently. You need to seek the permission of a Committee Member before taking anything away, record the loan in the book hanging on the notice board in the Clubhouse AND RETURN THE BORROWED ITEMS PROMPTLY.
  • We need to put together an up-to-date list of all Clubhouse key-holders. Please let Hugh know if you have a key.
That’s all for now. We look forward to seeing you at the Club before long.

Many thanks from all
