Hello Sailors

Laser Coaching Saturday 5th July
We are very fortunate to have two qualified Laser Coaches in our club - James 'Wings' G and James 'Fitness Guru' T and on Saturday they took a break from their RS800 sailing to organise a whole days coaching for not only our own Laser fleet but for visitors as well. A total of 20 sailors listened in to their technical morning briefing which focussed on sailing fast upwind and downwind in waves. Bursting with all this new information the Laser sailors then practised these new advanced techniques during strenuous exercises out in the bay with the added benefit of instruction and feedback from the coaches on the water and also from a positive video debrief in the clubhouse afterwards.
A very big thank you to James and James
Thanks also to those that helped with rescue duties, launching and retrieval and a 'special mention in dispatches' for those lovely ladies that provided all the delicious sustenance for the hungry sailors and helpers.

Laser SW Grand Prix Results Sunday 6th July
21 Lasers in total, including the National Omani team, entered the Grand Prix and practising what he had preached the day before, our own James 'Coach' G posted two wins out of 3 races to take the title with a notable 6th overall from Doctor Roger 'Apple of my Eye' B. Commiserations to Stewart 'The Lever' A whose efforts were cut short by a broken boom in the breeziest of the 3 races.

Laser Weekend Vote of Thanks
This event would not have been possible to run without an enormous groundswell of volunteer support from our members. There were 10 people out on the water in support boats, and at least as many more on the beach involved with launching and recovering all the boats and helping our visitors with their road trailers. And once again a group of our lovely ladies looked after everyone from the kitchen and the bar by cooking breakfast, serving endless cups of tea and coffee and putting on a delicious spread for the hungry sailors and helpers once they were safely back ashore.

The great thing about these club events is the camaraderie and bonhomie. There's a feel good factor for everyone involved, not only because it raises much needed income and supports the sailing for our Sailing Club but also because everybody enjoys being part of a team and consequently joins in with a smile on their face.

Sailing this week
The weather this Thursday evening looks well set for the second of our two Pursuit Races

Be there or be forever square
On the beach, on the water, on the start line, sheet in, Go !

Cheers and Beers
