Hello Sailors
Beer Regatta Week
This was an outstanding success story for Beer Sailing Club. We organised all the sailing races on both the Thursday and the Saturday in challenging (windy) conditions and raised £410 in entry fees for the Regatta Fund. We hosted the Prizegiving and Steak BBQ on the Saturday evening and we also catered for loads of hungry and thirsty sailors and visitors over the 2 days. We obviously couldn't have achieved all this without a fantastic amount of help and support from all of you so a big well done and thank you to everyone involved.
Supper Club Friday 27th September
We are very fortunate once again to have Grant as our 'in house' chef for the evening. The menu is on the booking form - if the last couple of supper clubs are anything to go by, you may have to be quick off the mark !

Beer Sailing Club - supporting our local community - providing a fantastic amenity on the beach - If you have spent any time at all on the beach enjoying the sun this summer you can't have failed to notice how many people, young and old, have been very grateful to walk along our decking walkway instead of struggling along the pebbles - 'thousands' of happy feet during the course of the summer plus, prams, pushchairs, tricycles, bicycles, wheelchairs, kayak & canoe trolleys.........has anyone seen anything else worthy of note ?
There is a 'catch' - we will be looking for volunteers to help coat the entire length with non slip paint this autumn - it's not as bad as it sounds with the use of long handles on big rollers so please get in touch if you can help.
The Scorpion National Championships at Sidmouth, Sunday 18th - Friday 23rd August
We lent our rib to Sidmouth SC for the week, manned it and brought it back safely to it's berth on the beach. We were also called upon to judge on their Protest Committee. Hopefully this means that they will reciprocate if we need any help at future events. Thank you especially to Mike R, Paul W, Stewart A, Jeremy H and Greg L.
Boat Warning
If you have a rowing boat or sailing dinghy on the Sailing Club beach site and you have not yet paid your dues for this season the boat will shortly be removed - you can download the Membership Form as a PDF Here or as a Word Document Here
Club Officers
Could you be our next Secretary, Membership Secretary, Vice Commodore ?
If you have the requisite skills to serve our Club in any of these positions or indeed any other capacity we would love to hear from you.
We still havn't been inundated with offers.....
So don't be shy, give it a try
Club Boats
We have a Laser Standard rig, a sturdy GRP Mirror plus 4 Laser Picos and 2 Laser Bahias available to Sailing Members during club sailing. If you would like to have a trial go in one of these club boats please get in touch with Alan Burley through the Sailing School.
Club Equipment
We have three awnings, a gas BBQ and several trestle tables which are available to club members to borrow in return for a donation to club funds. Please note that no one should borrow anything from the club without the express permission of the Beer Sailing Club Committee so advance planning would be advisable. For more details on 'borrowing' club equipment and the relevant donations involved please get in touch with Mike R or myself.
Club Finances
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of all our volunteers, in the bar, in the kitchen and on the water, we have been able to make a partial repayment of the Clubhouse Member Loans this week as planned. The amount was actually more than we had anticipated and If we are fortunate enough (or have enough stamina) to carry on fundraising at this pace, we are on course to repay all of the loans by the autumn of 2015. So a big, big thank you to the many, many volunteers who have put in a lot of time to make this possible and an extra 'mention in dispatches' for those gallant few who have performed 'above and beyond.'
Cheers and Beers
Ali
