Hello Sailors
Sailing Updates
Summer's finally here, we've completed a few club races and my slightly idiosyncratic view of events is recorded below
Congratulations to Stuart 'The Lever' A who has been the early season form horse. However on one notable occcasion his navigational error proved quite costly. He decided to sail to an Axe YC buoy while leading a race and ended up DFL (if you don't know what that means, don't be shy, I'll put you wise). So for a while at least it's no longer 'The Lever' but Stewart 'Tom Tom' A.
And there's another new handle in the fleet, Martin 'Baa Baa' D after he followed Stewart meekly around the same mark.
For a rather different reason there's also a change of handle for Mike 'Persistence' T. After his fruitless efforts with BT and their intermittent wi fi connection at the club he's temporarily earnt the grand title of Mike 'BB King' T.
Welcome to the 'boat owner' club for Graham 'Skittler' J. It was a baptism of fire last Thursday in a fierce offshore breeze that had him 'clapped in irons', well that's Laser sailing for you. Don't worry Graham, you'll get the hang of it in no time.
There are a few notable 'Lord Lucans' that we havn't seen yet this season - Cmon guys and girls, make a start, you know you'll enjoy it, the water is much warmer now than it was at Easter !
Patrol Boat and Race Hut Rota for Sailing Members
Mike and I are looking for volunteers, as we all know they are worth 10 pressed men - so please get in touch because we'll be getting to you soon anyway
Monday Evenings in the Clubhouse Bar
The Luggers were out racing yesterday evening in the last of a summer sea breeze. They make a fine sight on a Monday evening. The clubhouse terrace is a fine viewing platform. And thanks to Derek and Adam, the bar is open for a welcome sundowner.
Winch Volunteers
There's no better sight for Peter and Dave on Monday evening than to see some willing volunteers to help the patrol boat safely back to it's berth on the beach
We've seen plenty of other boats pottering around the bay and it's important to remember that the club is a ''broad church' and racing is not the only way to enjoy yourself out on the water. The advent of the dinghy winch on the beach means that it is possible to get out whenever you want, weather permitting.
Sailing Club Winches
The Sailing Club winches are there to make life easier for everyone to go sailing. If you need some advice or guidance on how to use them safely please get in touch. We are available to help.
The Sailing School is also up and running....Well Done Alan and Tony

Thursday Evenings in the Clubhouse Bar
Opening the bar on a regular basis has proved a great success so far. So if you fancy a 'sundowner' on a Thursday evening this summer, the bar is open 7pm - 10pm thanks to Di T and Heather A - N.B. it's A !!
Wednesday Morning Coffee Club in the Clubhouse
So much better than 'Costa' and the view is magnificent - delicious cakes and savoury scones - catch up for a 'social' coffee with other club members
Be there or be forever Square
Cheers and Beers
Ali
